Linton has an active walking group that meets every week, almost throughout the year. The 2024 Walks Schedule has now been published, and can be downloaded from here, see above ..
On every other Thursday morning at 11am there is a weekly walk. In addition, we have a full programme of evening walks, each Tuesday evening. See the schedule. The Thursday morning walks will start at 11am prompt from 8th February, and the Tuesday evening walks start at 6pm on 2nd April. The start time will move to 7pm from 7th May.
In addition to the above there will be a Grand Summer Outing, on Sunday 7th July, and we also organise the annual Linton Parish Boundary Walk. This takes place on Rogation Sunday, which in 2024 is on Sunday 5th May. Please support this walk – it is a long-standing Linton tradition, which we are working hard to keep going ... it will be starting from the Linton Church Car Park, 10.30am prompt! More details from Jerry Whitmarsh
Finally, we have an annual Walkers dinner in a local restaurant or pub.. [Tuesday 26th November 2024. More details, nearer the time]
All of our walks involve a donation of £1 per head, in aid of the Friends of Linton Church and similar local worthy causes. In 2018 we raised £1,408 – all at £1 per walk – and were able to donate money to various charities including the Friends of Linton Church, to the Church itself, to Buttercups Goat Sanctuary, and to the Friends of Boxley Church (in memory of Jenetta Cassidi), amongst other beneficiaries. Covid has of course affected our walking income severely since then, but we are building up again now
The wonderful thing about these walks is how many good things they do, all at once:
– they get us out of doors into the fresh air and contribute to a healthy lifestyle
– they show us how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. The views across the Weald from Linton are fabulous!
– they show us the ins and outs of our local footpaths, fields and beauty spots – places you never knew were there, perhaps only a mile from your own home..
– there is a strong social element to the walks. Numbers vary from week to week, but we are a friendly group and there is always someone to talk to, or not as you choose.. often we end up in a pub, but at least we will have earned our drink!
Why not give it a try? Contact Jerry or Peter - or just turn up to any walk.
All the walks are organised by Jerry Whitmarsh and Peter Goodhew Click on their name, to contact them by email. They are happy to provide more details or answer questions on request.
